About This Location

Prinsep Ghat is a colonial-era riverside ghat (bathing steps) on the Hooghly River, built in 1841. A colonnaded neoclassical pavilion, fairy lights strung between columns, and the activity of rowing clubs, boat services, and evening visitors create a romantic riverside atmosphere unlike anywhere else in India. The Vidyasagar Bridge in the background and the Howrah Bridge 2 km upstream are iconic Kolkata backdrops.
