The Khajuraho Group of Monuments (UNESCO World Heritage) is a collection of 85 Hindu and Jain temples built between 950–1050 AD by the Chandela dynasty, celebrated for their elaborate erotic and devotional carvings. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple (30.5m high), the most spectacular, has 872 sculptures including the famous amorous couples (mithuna). The temples are set in manicured gardens, making composition straightforward.
Khajuraho airport connects to Delhi and Varanasi directly. Mahoba railway station is 65 km.
