About This Location

Chilika Lake, covering 1,100 sq km, is Asia's largest brackish water lagoon and one of the world's largest wintering grounds for migratory birds — over 160 species including flamingos, grey pelicans, and painted storks arrive November to January. The Irrawaddy dolphins (rare freshwater dolphins) in the Satapada sector can be spotted year-round. The Kalijai Temple island and the Nalabana bird sanctuary within the lake are accessible only by boat.
